A classic early American rimfire pump — Winchester Model 1890 Takedown chambered in .22 Long, manufactured in 1902 during the first decade of production of John Browning’s legendary slide-action design.
This example features the desirable 24" octagon barrel, maintaining the traditional profile that defined early Model 1890 rifles. The takedown configuration allowed for easy transport and cleaning, one of the key features that made the model so popular with small-game hunters and outdoorsmen of the era.
The rifle retains its steel butt plate and weighs 5 lbs 12 oz, giving it the light, quick-handling feel typical of early Winchester rimfire pumps. Length of pull measures 12 7/8", consistent with the original sporting dimensions of the period.
Condition is good overall, showing honest handling and age. The wood remains solid, while the metal exhibits an even patina consistent with use and storage over more than a century. The magazine follower has been replaced, and the bore remains good, indicating the rifle remains mechanically sound.
An appealing early-production Winchester 1890 takedown, representing one of the most successful and enduring .22 pump rifles ever produced.
