A desirable and highly collectible Winchester Repeating Arms Model 1886 chambered in .50 Express (.50-110), manufactured in 1892 and accompanied by a Cody letter, confirming its factory history and adding significant collector appeal.
This is a special-order standard rifle, built with a 26" round barrel and fitted with Lyman front and rear sights. The rifle features the highly desirable special-order pistol grip stock with black wooden inlay, a notable upgrade from standard production and an important feature for collectors of early 1886s.
Additional features include a full-length magazine, set trigger, and steel crescent buttplate. The cleaning rod is no longer present.
Condition is very good overall, showing expected handling from storage and use while retaining good original color, including traces of original case color. The bore is excellent, making this an especially strong example for both collection and use.
Weight is 8 lbs. 12 oz., with a 13" length of pull.
Early special-order 1886 rifles in .50 Express with factory documentation are increasingly difficult to locate, and this example offers the combination of desirable chambering, configuration, and lettered provenance that advanced Winchester collectors seek.
