A visually striking and uncommon early Winchester, this Winchester Model 1892 Deluxe in .44-40 W.C.F., serialed in the 15,xxx range, was special ordered with factory engraving, giving it immediate collector presence despite later alterations.
The rifle is fitted with a 22½" octagon barrel with combination front sight and single-leaf rear sight, along with a tang-mounted rear peep sight. Notably, the barrel and magazine tube appear to have been shortened from the breech end, with four punch dots visible on the top flat behind the rear sight—an important detail disclosed for transparency. It retains a steel butt plate, consistent with period Deluxe configuration.
Condition is good overall. The rifle has been refinished, with most of the blue finish still present, and shows handling to the wood and metal. The bore is good, exhibiting some light pitting, though rifling remains sharp and serviceable. Weight is 7 lbs 3 oz with a 13" length of pull.
While not an untouched example, this is an early, engraved Deluxe Model 1892 with strong visual appeal and honest disclosure of changes—an opportunity for the collector seeking an engraved Winchester with character and presence at a more accessible level.
