Westley Richards Droplock .470 Nitro Express | Made 1906 | Factory Re-Chambered

A classic Westley Richards Droplock double rifle, manufactured in 1906 and today chambered in .470 Nitro Express. Originally built for the .476 Westley Richards, the rifle was returned to Westley Richards and re-chambered to .470 Nitro Express sometime in the mid-to-late 1980s, while retaining its original barrels.

The barrels carry .470 EX 3.25" / 14 Tons proof marks, documenting the rifle's present chambering. At 24", they make for a relatively compact dangerous-game rifle and are fitted with a quarter rib, 100-yard folding sight, flip-up night sight, and bases for quick-detachable scope rings. The bores remain bright and crisp.

At the heart of the rifle is the famous Westley Richards detachable-lock, or “Droplock,” action—one of the firm's defining designs and a system that has earned an enduring reputation among hunters and collectors of British double rifles.

Features include a single selective trigger, ejectors, splinter forearm, capped pistol grip with trap door, cheekpiece, sling swivel studs, and factory recoil pad.

The rifle remains in very good to excellent condition, showing some handling to the wood and metal finishes from careful use and storage. Rather than being an untouched collector piece, this is a rifle with the configuration and condition to be taken back into the field and used as intended.

Weight is 10 lbs. 9 oz., with a 13 3/4" LOP. The rifle is offered cased.

The combination of an original 1906 Westley Richards Droplock action, original barrels, later Westley Richards .470 Nitro Express conversion, compact 24" barrel length, ejectors, and practical sighting arrangement makes this an especially interesting working double rifle.

A proper Westley Richards dangerous-game rifle with more than a century of history behind it—and one that remains ready for its next safari.
