A truly unusual and highly collectible early Savage, this Model 1899H takedown carbine was manufactured in 1913 and originally sold to Iver Johnson Sporting Goods. Chambered in the scarce .22 Hi-Power, it is accompanied by an additional factory .410 barrel set, making this a remarkably versatile and seldom-seen combination.
The primary configuration features 20" .22 Hi-Power barrels with sights, complemented by a Lyman rear peep sight—a period-correct and highly desirable upgrade. The auxiliary 24" .410 barrels, choked approximately .013 with 2½" chambers, transform the rifle into a lightweight small-game and utility shotgun, a concept Savage explored in limited numbers during the era.
Finished with a Savage buttplate, sling swivels, and excellent early features, the rifle remains in excellent original condition, retaining strong, vivid case colors and showing only light handling consistent with careful use over more than a century.
The package is further enhanced by its case and a partial box of Peters .22 Hi-Power ammunition (17 rounds)—a rare and evocative period accessory seldom encountered today.
Weights are 6 lbs 10 oz with the .410 barrels and 7 lbs 1 oz with the .22 Hi-Power barrels, with a 13¼" LOP, giving the carbine excellent balance in either configuration.
