An exceptionally early and historically significant U.S. military pistol, this Remington U.M.C. U.S. Army Model 1911 in .45 ACP, manufactured in 1918, bears Serial No. 4—placing it among the very first pistols produced under Remington-UMC’s World War I contract.
The frame is correctly marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY”, and the pistol shows the proper E stamps on the left trigger guard, rear of slide, and beneath the mainspring housing, along with the correct E.E.C. inspection mark (Edward E. Chapman). The barrel is marked with a single “P” above the chamber, consistent with period military inspection. All observed components appear correct for this pistol and align with known early Remington-UMC contract examples.
The pistol is in excellent condition, though it has been refinished at some point, a fact properly disclosed. The refinish presents cleanly and evenly, allowing the exceptionally low serial number and correct markings to remain clear and legible. It is accompanied by one two-tone magazine.
With Remington-UMC producing a relatively small number of Model 1911 pistols during WWI, examples with single-digit serial numbers are extraordinarily scarce. Serial No. 4 represents a rare opportunity to acquire a cornerstone piece of U.S. military pistol history—important for its early production status, correct markings, and overall presentation.
