A scarce U.S. military competition pistol — Remington Rand / Colt Model 1911A1 National Match .45 ACP, upgraded by Rock Island Arsenal during the U.S. Army’s National Match program of the 1960s.
Originally manufactured as a Colt frame in 1943, this pistol was later selected by Rock Island Arsenal for conversion to National Match configuration and fitted with a Remington Rand slide, a combination frequently encountered on government-built competition pistols prepared for military marksmanship teams.
The pistol is equipped with a 5" National Match barrel marked “.45 AUTO / NM 7791414”, numbered to the gun on the chamber hood, along with a matched “7267718 / NM” bushing. The frame bears RIA inspection marks along with “P” and “NM” stamps, confirming its inspection and conversion through the Rock Island National Match program.
Competition features include a serrated Patridge front sight paired with an adjustable Micro rear sight, a long serrated adjustable trigger, serrated narrow hammer, and an arched mainspring housing with lanyard loop. The pistol is fitted with checkered walnut grips, maintaining the traditional military target configuration.
Condition remains excellent, showing only minimal handling from storage and light use. An especially desirable feature is the original Rock Island Arsenal shipping box, rarely encountered with these government-built National Match pistols.
An authentic U.S. military National Match 1911A1, combining wartime production with Rock Island Arsenal’s competition upgrades—an appealing example for collectors of U.S. martial arms and military marksmanship history.
