A substantial and highly desirable R.B. Rodda & Co. back action hammer double rifle, chambered in the powerful .450 No. 2 3 1/2" Nitro Express, one of the classic British dangerous-game cartridges.
Built with 28" barrels, the rifle is fitted with a quarter rib carrying one standing and four folding rear leaves, along with a flip-up front sight, giving it the proper sighting arrangement for use at varied distances in the field. The traditional layout includes double triggers, extractor, splinter forearm, capped pistol grip, cheek piece, recoil pad, and sling swivel studs.
The rifle remains in excellent condition following a quality refinish, though the exact shop responsible is unconfirmed. The work presents very well and gives the rifle the appearance of a professionally restored British double. The bore is excellent, an important consideration in a rifle of this class.
At 11 lbs. 4 oz., the gun carries the proper weight to help manage recoil from the .450 No. 2 cartridge while maintaining the balance expected from a classic large-bore double rifle. Length of pull is 14 5/8".
The rifle is offered cased in an oak and leather case with accessories, and ammunition and load data are available, adding significant value for the buyer looking to put the rifle into use.
A properly configured British nitro double in one of the great stopping calibers, and a strong option for the collector or sportsman seeking a classic dangerous-game rifle.
