PURDEY – BEST SXS BIG GAME RIFLE , 470 NE

A commanding and beautifully preserved Purdey Best double rifle in .470 Nitro Express, completed in 1953 and offered in excellent condition in its maker’s case. This is a serious stopping rifle from London’s most revered maker, built to exacting standards and intended for the largest and most dangerous game.

The rifle is fitted with 25½" barrels and a quarter rib with two-leaf express sights, paired with a hooded front sight for fast, decisive target acquisition. Classic Best configuration continues with double triggers, automatic ejectors, a beavertail forearm, and a pistol grip capped by an engraved trap-door grip cap—all executed with Purdey’s trademark restraint and precision.

At 10 lbs 8 oz, the rifle has the mass and balance required to manage the .470 NE with authority while remaining quick to the shoulder. Fit and finish are outstanding throughout, with crisp metalwork, excellent wood, and the unmistakable feel of a properly regulated London double. A 14¼" LOP gives the rifle modern, shootable proportions.
