An exceptional Purdey Best sidelock double rifle in .470 Nitro Express, completed in 1961 and elevated by hand engraving from K. C. (Ken) Hunt, one of Britain’s most respected engravers. This is a no-compromise dangerous-game rifle, built with authority, strength, and unmistakable London refinement.
The rifle is fitted with 24" barrels and features both open sights and a peep sight, offering fast acquisition and practical versatility in the field. A third fastener and side clips reinforce the action, while double triggers and automatic ejectors ensure absolute reliability under pressure. The configuration is purposeful and correct, with a beavertail forend, cheekpiece, and metal-capped pistol grip, all contributing to confident handling and control.
Ken Hunt’s engraving is bold and refined, complemented by gold-washed internal parts, adding visual depth without detracting from the rifle’s serious intent. Weighing 10 lbs, the rifle has ideal mass for recoil management and quick second shots, with a 14¼" LOP that suits modern shooters.
Condition is excellent, and the rifle is housed in a proper oak and leather case with canvas cover, completing a presentation befitting a true London Best.
