PURDEY BEST PRE WAR SXS 12 GAUGE 2 BARREL SET

An exceptional pre-war Purdey Best sidelock, completed in 1914 and offered with a factory two-barrel set—a configuration rarely encountered and highly prized by advanced collectors. This is a serious, properly built London Best that delivers both finesse and authority, presented in excellent condition with only light, honest handling.

The first barrel set is 28" solid rib, lightly choked .005 and .008, chambered 2¾" and nitro proofed at 3¼ tons, ideal for driven birds and refined game shooting. The second set measures 29¾" solid rib, choked .040 and .040, also 2¾", nitro proofed for 1¼ oz loads, providing a powerful long-range option. Both sets retain strong bore dimensions and excellent remaining wall thickness, underscoring originality and mechanical health.

Classic Best features include side clips, double triggers, automatic ejectors, a splinter forearm, and a straight English grip, all contributing to the unmistakable feel of a true Purdey. At 7 lbs 10 oz, the gun has the composed, authoritative balance expected of a multi-barrel pre-war Best.
