A classic European single-barrel trap gun, this Mauser-Bauer Model 496 12 Gauge reflects the solid construction and competition-focused design that made these guns well regarded among serious shooters. Mauser-Bauer shotguns were European-made sporting arms imported to the U.S. during the late 20th century, widely understood to be Italian manufactured and marketed through Bauer-associated import channels, with the Mauser name used for recognition rather than direct Mauser rifle company production.
Purpose-built for trap shooting, this example is fitted with a 32" Böhler steel vent-rib barrel, choked Full (.037) with a 2¾" chamber, providing the long sighting plane and pattern density favored for singles and handicap work. Features include an ejector, cross-bolt safety, beavertail forearm, pistol grip stock, and a Pachmayr recoil pad, creating a comfortable, controllable shooting platform.
Weighing 7 lbs 14 oz, with dimensions of 2½" drop at Monte Carlo, 1½" DAC, and 14¼" LOP, it mounts consistently and swings smoothly. Condition is excellent, showing only light handling from careful storage and use.
A strong, honest Model 496—well made, competition-configured, and representative of a period when European-built trap guns offered serious performance at an approachable price point.
