This is a rifle built for decisions made in the field, not at the gun rack.
The Jakob Koschat Ferlach Blockdrilling in 12 Gauge / 7×65R / .22 Hornet, completed in 1988, reflects the Austrian school of hunting arms at its most practical and deliberate. Designed to cover birds, medium game, and small precision work in one platform, a blockdrilling like this is about preparedness rather than convenience—and Koschat executed that brief with discipline.
The gun is built on a side-plated action and fitted with 25⅝" Böhler Antinit steel barrels, regulated around a ramped front sight and rear island express sights, with a claw-mounted Zeiss Diavari 1.5–6×42 T* for distance work. The layout is traditional but thoughtful: double triggers, a push safety, cocking safety on the action tang, and bushed firing pins, all chosen for reliability and control under varied conditions.
Stocked with a Bavarian cheekpiece, recoil pad, and a toe-line trap door, the gun balances substance with restraint. At 7 lbs 13 oz without the scope and 9 lbs 7 oz with glass, it remains field-balanced rather than cumbersome—exactly what a multi-caliber stalking gun should be.
Condition is excellent, showing minimal handling to wood and metal from careful use and storage. Dimensions (2 11/16" DAH, 1 11/16" DAC, 14⅛" LOP) suggest it was built to be shot well, not merely admired.
A serious, well-executed blockdrilling from Jakob Koschat, paired with first-rate optics from Zeiss—this is a tool for the hunter who values readiness, flexibility, and quiet competence over specialization.
