A classic English sporting gun, this I. Hollis & Sons Best boxlock reflects the firm’s long-standing reputation for sound design, practical elegance, and durable London workmanship. Hollis guns have always been valued for their honesty and utility, offering well-made actions and sensible configurations intended for real field use rather than excess ornamentation.
This example is fitted with 29" solid rib barrels with 2½" chambers and measured choke constrictions of .010 and .017, making it well suited for traditional driven shooting or walked-up game. Of particular note, the barrels were rebarreled by Holland & Holland, adding a meaningful point of quality and provenance. The action is built on a Westley Richards frame, a respected and robust foundation known for longevity. The gun is configured with double triggers, extractors, a splinter forearm, and an English grip, and is finished with a leather-covered recoil pad, maintaining its classic British character.
Weighing just 6 lbs 6 oz, the gun is notably light and responsive, carrying easily and mounting quickly. Stock dimensions include a 14½" length of pull, 2⅛" drop at heel, and 1½" drop at comb, offering generous, traditional English proportions.
Condition is good to very good, showing light handling marks consistent with careful storage and normal field use. Nothing abused, nothing over-restored—an honest sporting gun that remains fully serviceable and well suited for continued use.
A well-balanced and properly configured English Best boxlock, combining respected components, quality rebarreling, and understated craftsmanship for the shooter or collector who values function, heritage, and authenticity.
