Heym Model 33 Drilling | 20 Gauge x 20 Gauge x .270 Winchester

A highly versatile Heym Model 33 drilling, manufactured circa the 1960s and combining twin 20 gauge shotgun barrels with a .270 Winchester rifle barrel—a particularly useful chambering combination in the traditional German three-barrel sporting gun.

The gun is fitted with 23 5/8" solid rib barrels. The 20 gauge barrels are choked Improved Cylinder and Modified (.007 and .014 constrictions) with 2 3/4" chambers. The rifle barrel is chambered in .270 Winchester and utilizes a set trigger for more precise rifle shooting.

The action incorporates a number of classic German gunmaking features, including cross bolt, side clips, double underlugs, extractor, and Greener side safety. A top-tang selector changes the gun from shotgun to rifle operation, and selecting the rifle barrel automatically raises the rifle rear sight into position—a clever and distinctly traditional drilling feature.

Furniture consists of a splinter forearm, pistol grip stock, cheekpiece, and leather-covered recoil pad.

The gun remains in excellent condition with minimal handling, presenting as a carefully maintained example.

Weight is 7 lbs. 5 oz., with stock dimensions of 2 7/8" DAH, 1 1/2" DAC, and 15" LOP.

The appeal of a drilling has always been its ability to handle dramatically different game with a single firearm. With 20 gauge barrels for birds and small game and the .270 Winchester for larger game, this Model 33 offers an especially practical combination while retaining the mechanical ingenuity and traditional styling associated with fine German sporting arms.

An excellent example of the classic European drilling—compact, mechanically interesting, and exceptionally versatile.
