HENRY ATKIN BEST SIDELOCK 12 GAUGE ACTIONED BY JOHN ROBERTSON

A true London Best, this exceptional Henry Atkin sidelock represents the golden age of English gunmaking, actioned by the renowned John Robertson and completed in 1902. Elegant, perfectly proportioned, and mechanically superb, this gun embodies everything collectors and sportsmen seek in a classic British game gun.

Fitted with 30" solid rib barrels choked .008 and .014, the gun is ideally suited for driven birds and traditional game shooting. It retains excellent barrel integrity, with minimum wall thicknesses of approximately .026 left and .023 right, and was professionally re-proofed in 2021, providing confidence for continued use. The gun is proved for 1 1/8 oz loads, with bores measuring .733 / .733 and proofed at 18.7mm.

Classic configuration includes double triggers, automatic ejectors, a splinter forearm, and a straight English grip, all contributing to the lively handling expected of a Best gun weighing just 6 lbs 11 oz. Stock dimensions are well-balanced and practical, making this an exceptionally shootable example.

Condition is excellent, showing only light handling consistent with careful use over more than a century. The gun is housed in a handsome oak and leather case, completing a refined and highly correct presentation.

An outstanding opportunity to acquire a proper London Best sidelock, with desirable provenance, modern proof, and timeless elegance—ready for the field and equally at home in a serious collection.
