This rifle is fitted with 26" Whitworth fluid steel barrels, with the top rib marked “Chambered for Gibbs No.2 Case”, and carries a proper express sighting arrangement with one standing and four folding rear leaves. The use of Whitworth steel is a notable feature and speaks to the quality of the barrels.
The rifle retains its classic configuration with double triggers, ejectors, splinter forearm, pistol grip, and butt plate, consistent with a late 19th century British sporting rifle.
Condition remains very good overall, with evident handling from storage and use, including some blue wear at the muzzle, but presenting as a solid and honest example. The rifle is offered cased in a lead-lined wooden take-down case, a substantial and period-correct accessory.
Weight is 9 lbs. 8 oz., with a 14 1/2" length of pull, giving the rifle good balance for its intended use.
Included are 6 loaded rounds of .461 No. 2 ammunition in Bertram brass, an important addition given the relative scarcity of ammunition in this chambering.
A well-built Gibbs double rifle in a less commonly encountered cartridge, offering both historical interest and practical shootability for the knowledgeable buyer.
