An early and highly desirable example of Colt’s postwar service pistols, this Colt Lightweight Commander in .45 ACP, manufactured in 1955, represents the very beginning of the Commander lineage and one of Colt’s most important design evolutions.
Introduced in the early 1950s, the Lightweight Commander was Colt’s first major-production aluminum-framed .45, developed originally for military trials and quickly embraced by civilians for its reduced weight and excellent handling. This example features the correct 4¼" barrel and alloy frame, delivering the balance and carryability that made the model famous.
Condition is excellent, like new, an exceptional level of preservation for a mid-1950s alloy-frame pistol. It is accompanied by its factory box and instruction manual, a significant rarity and a major enhancement to collector value.
A standout early Lightweight Commander—historically important, beautifully preserved, and among the finest examples one could hope to find from this era.
